Why I Must Visit Borobudur and Prambanan temple?

On planet earth there are 7 wonders of the world, these are manmade structures which are truly breathtaking in their majesty, size, and construction. One such wonder is the breathtaking Borobudur Temple. The temple is located in located in Magelang a town close to Yogyakarta.

Borobudur Temple is simply massive, is one of the main tourist attractions in Java and Indonesia, and is considered to be in the same category as the Great Wall of China or Machu Picchu in South America. Dating from the 8th and 9th Century BC the temple is one of the greatest Buddhist temples in the world and the way it is constructed actually depicts the divisions of Nirvana and man's path in trying to attain it. The Temple is also regarded as an outstanding dynastic monument of the Syailendra Dynasty a governor/ principality that was ruling over Java and its people for around five whole centuries until the 10th century.

Borobodur Temple

As a tourist one thing that strikes you when visiting this magnificent temple is not only its size and grandeur, but also its intricate beauty. The main temple is actually constructed around a hill, and has walls decorated with reliefs and 72 open ‘stupas’ each contain a statue of Buddha.

The temple is staggering pretty much any time of the day. It is one of the best places for amazing photographs. Sunrise at Borobudur is an unforgettable experience, you walk to the top of the temple and can gaze out at mist covered forests and then the first rays of the Java sun as it warms the stone structure and the magic stirs within. Sunset at Borobudur is a real spectacle as you can watch the magnificent golds, oranges, and yellows, as the sun retreats behind the mountains and you are left standing under a blanket of stars in the obsidian sky, wondering if you just achieved enlightenment.

Borobudur and Prambanan Tour

You can also take a Prambanan tour and see the sister temple and Borobudur on the same day.

Plato Dieng is another great attraction and great for walking and hiking around. This plateau is jaw-dropping beautiful and is a natural park straight out of ‘Jurassic Park’ as the whole area is volcanic and a bit like Yellowstone in the states. The area is fantastic for activities like climbing, waterfall scrambling, abseiling, and many others.

If you take a Java tour in the National Park you will no doubt visit and do a Jomblang Cave tour. The cave is 80 m deep and vertical on decent so you have to abseil down to the bottom. Once you get there you can see it is teeming with life as the sunlight reaches the bottom so there is a mini forest at the base. The tour shows you a labyrinth of connecting caves and the beauty of the stalactites and stalagmites that cover the walls and ceilings.
