DAY 2. Prambanan and Borobudur temples, Mendut and Pawon temples (B,L)

Yogyakarta is the capital city of ‘the Special Region of Yogyakarta’, famous for its amazing cultural heritage sites. Today you will visit the magical Borobudur Temple - the largest and most iconic Hindu temple in all of Indonesia and you will also visit Prambanan, a big complex of Hindu temples. Both Borobudur and Prambanan are recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and they are arguably the biggest tourist attractions of the country. First stop is Prambanan, a temple complex built in the 9th century, comprising no less than 224 shrines. The three biggest temples of Prambanan are dedicated to the Gods Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma.

Next stop is the holy temple of Borobudur, one of the Seven Wonder of the World. Climbing the stairs of this ancient Hindu temple that also descends from the 9th century, you will stand in awe as the beauty of this temple and the surrounding landscapes take your breath away. The temple structure is 42 meters height, and it took approximately 70 years to construct! The smaller temples of Mendut and Pawon, are located to the east on a straight axis to Borobudur. All of these temples together represent phases in the attainment of Nirvana.

DAY 3. Plateau Dieng, Sikidang crater, Colorful lakes, Temple complex Arjuna, tea plantations (B,L)

Today, after breakfast, you will visit Dieng Plateau. The name "Dieng" descends from the words "Di Hyang" and it translates to "Abode of the Gods". The scenic volcanic landscape, the sulfur springs, and the colored lakes make this place a real natural wonder, reminding of a fairy tale or a different planet. When wandering around here, you will understand why the ancient Javanese people considered Dieng Plateau as the seat of supernatural powers. Even the drive to get here offers impressive sights and on the way up, you will pass through tobacco plantations and sightly mountains.

The highlight of this day is standing on top of the Sikidang Crater where you are surrounded by steaming vents and bubbling mud ponds. With facemask on, you can walk all around the crater. A unique experience that is not meant for the faint-hearted. From here, you will drive to the Arjuna Temple Complex - home to some of the oldest temples in Java. Arjuna consists of 5 temples located inside the complex and another 4 just outside of the temple complex. All of them were built at the end of the 12th century. In fact, these 9 temples are the only ones remaining from the 400 temples that were built here ages ago. The last place to visit on this impressive day in Java is at an enchanting multiple-colored lake. Shimmering in shades of red, green, blue, white and mauve, this lake is really stunning and the atmosphere around the lake is wonderfully calm and quiet. A full day of impressive and magical places and now it's time to go back to your hotel.
