The first day of the 2-days tour starts in the morning with your pickup from the hotel or Yogyakarta airport. The first site and one of the reasons why thousands of people come to Yogyakarta, will be Borobudur Temple. It`s the world's largest Buddhist Temple that also became UNESCO World Heritage Site, built in IX century. Borobudur Temple is an example of local traditional architecture. Looking at this numbers you will realize a size of the Temple: time to build it - around 70 years, total volume of stone used - 55,000 cubic meters, the high of the Temple is 42 meters, monument base is 123m by 123m.
After we have visited the temples at Borobudur the tour continues on to a mysterious natural wonder area known as ‘Plateau Dieng. The plateau is one of the most magnificent sites in the whole of Indonesia, a volcanic natural park much like Yellowstone in America; complete with hot water springs geysers and incredible volcanic steam vents. The area has inspired many myths and legends of witchcraft and supernatural goings on from the locals. The name Plateau Dieng literally translates to ‘The Abode of the Gods’ and looking around the area it is easy to see how such a name was chosen and why the people considered the area a seat for supernatural powers. One of the highlights of this tour is the chance to walk around the crater of an active volcano! The volcano is not full of lava but mud, and inside the is so hot it mud bubbles, your fully trained guide will equip you (if you want to get close and take some great pictures) with a mask, and safety equipment, so you can get up close and personal with one of nature’s most awesome sights. Even your drive too and from the site is exciting as there are many mountains gulley’s and (due to the rich volcanic soil) tobacco plantations along the way.
The next place on the tour is the historic XII century Arjuna Temple Complex. The complex was built by the Kalingga Kingdom under the reign of the Sanjaya Dynasty. The 9 temples in the complex are all that remain of a complex which when it was constructed used to have over 400 individual temples! The temples themselves are ornate and have some incredible carvings, and artwork, prominently displayed giving a window into the history of Java. The final place on the tour is nothing less than a natural phenomenon a giant lake which constantly changes its colour from blue, red, white, mauve, and green in between. This is a perfect place to end the tour as it is peaceful and a great spot for some excellent group photos.
After sleep around 5 hours and have a light breakfast, our guide will pickup you from the hotel and your tour to Merapi (literally Mountain of Fire, 2,930 m above sea level) will start. Be sure that you have a comfortable shoes and are in good phisical condition - you need to be fit, to make your trekking more comfortable and easy.
