Our tour starts off in the mythical Hindu shrine of Prambanan. Towering above the Indonesian countryside and a testament to man's devotion to the gods’ stands the Prambanan temple. Intricately hewn from grey stone, it sits in stark contrast to the lush flat green grass which surrounds it. The temple itself is part of a complex of 244 smaller shrines and temples; the three largest temples at the Prambanan complex are all built in the IX century, and are dedicated to the three greatest gods in Hindu mythology Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma. The temple is unique and due to its amazing and very beautiful artwork and relief sculpture, it has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Seven Travel have arranged a full English speaking guide who will tell you all about the history of the temple, and the people who used to worship here.
The first site of the second day, and one of the reasons why thousands of people come to Yogyakarta, will be the sunrise in Borobudur Temple.
Your tour of the incredible temple of Borobudur can be arranged to start in the early morning or late evening; we will happily pick you up from your hotel/resort or even meet you at the International airport at Yogyakarta. On arrival at the temple guests can truly get a feel for this incredible structure as the sun either rises and awakens a new day, or sets and ushers in another steamy and mystical Java night. The temple is (widely recognized as one of the man made wonders of the world) is huge and stands 42 meters from the ground and took some 70 years to construct; in fact it is the world’s largest Buddhist temple. Recently Yogyakarta and the Borobudur temple have been featured on the big screen in films such as Tomb Raider, starring Angelina Jolie, and the Indonesian action classic Java Heat. Here at The Seven Travel we do everything we can to ensure you have the most unique and amazing experience on all our tours which is why we employ talented, knowledgeable and highly skilled English speaking guides to give you the full history of the incredible temple and the mystical land of Java.
After visiting the magnificent temple at Borobudur we then take you to see the enchanting area known as Plateau Dieng a name which literally translates to “The Abode of the Gods". The volcanic landscape at Plateau Dieng is truly breathtaking; beautiful colored lakes, hot water sulphur springs, and geysers, make this place a true natural wonder. The landscape is reminiscent of Yellowstone natural park in the U.S.A, and equally impressive. There are many local legends about Plateau Dieng passed down from word of mouth through generations of Javanese who consider the area to be supernatural, and an area of witchcraft and natural magic. Looking at the landscape you can appreciate why they thought in this way. The landscape around Plateau Dieng is rich and fertile from the volcanic lava and has been cultivated by the locals for tobacco, and the local markets sell this everywhere you look. The crater of the volcano known as Sikidang is filled with bubbling mud and hot springs, tourists can walk all around the crater (using a facemask) and get a close up view to see the mud water boil away taking some incredible pictures. This part of the tour is completely safe and we provide qualified guides to make sure your trip is fun and safe.
The next part of the tour is the Arjuna Temple Complex which is one of the oldest and most impressive temples in Java built during the reign of the Sanjaya Dynasty. It consists of a total of 5 temples inside the complex and a further 4 more temples standing apart. The temple complex was constructed at the end of the XII century and the 9 temples we can see today are all that remains of a site which once housed 400 temples. The final stop on the tour is one of the most beautiful natural wonders in Indonesia, ‘The colored lakes’ are a unique geographical feature and regularly change their colour from a dark brooding red to deep blue, green, and even a mauve coloration. The lakes are peaceful and a natural beauty spot.
